If western women are so ''independent'' of men why do they shave their bodies and wear high heels

I am about 5'11'' and i like wearing 5 inch heels because it makes me about 6'3''. I am very thin and have amazingly long legs (38 inch inseams). I like wearing high heels because I tower over most men and I like the feeling of being taller then they are. It is even more satisfying to know the men secretly are attracted to a woman in heels

Women are just as judgemental, if not more so, about the appearance of other women. Male - female politics is not the sole driver of womens' fashion.

I do not think trying to look your best has anything to do with being dependent on anyone. Men are the same way , everyone wants to look there best. You are assuming women do this to please men, I think they are pleasing there self. As far as choice, guys shaving everyday, buying nice clothes or wearing after shave is a choice we make also. Has nothing at all to do with independence.
I think women deserve more credit than what you are assuming.

Damm. you got me with this one. I'd say guys show have to shave theirs legs, wear mini skirts, and high heels. But it';s not my choice, so us girls have to wear them.

Acceptability. Western custom. Fact that legs in heels are elongated. We do not just dress for or because of men - women check each other out all the time without being gay and as Trisha said - self-confidence.

being ''independant'' of men does NOT mean that we do not want them.
On one hand wearing high heels & shaving DOES make a woman feek more attractive an ''sexy'' in her own account & it can totally help with her self-confidence.
But yes its true that we do those things at times to..appear more alluring to a guy.
BUt just because we want a guy to like us does not mean that we've lost our independance.
Men use deodrant is & wear fashionable clothes, which is a MAJOR part of their charm. Does that threaten their ''independance''??

I do not shave for anyone, except for myself. I shave my armpits because I find that, when I do not shave I sweat more. So, basically I find it a lot more hygienic. I shave my legs because it makes me feel better. They're not always shaved, as I am too lazy these days, but after a while it does start to annoy me & I need to get the razor on them.

It is got nothing to do with men. I am single & very happy to remain single, definitely not looking for a bloke. I shave because it makes me feel better.

And, I do not wear high heels as they kill my feet. But, if I did, it would be simply because I liked the shoes.

not all women dress up in high heels & shave,wax, pluck do their hair for men they do it for them self. & to be honest it pretty pig headed of u to think that they do ur not inside a women is brain to know weather or not they r doing this for men or just for them it is our choice on how we want to live our life & were not controlled by the way we look just to impress some guys. the question can then be why do men gel,shave & some wax & go to the gym just to impress us girls its the same situation girls would be pig headed to think that they r doing that just to impress them.

People try and please each other.

And just because there is still sexism and a gender gap does not mean it is not shrinking.

So, 'ultimately' things are always in flux, get used to it.

Have u ever seen a olive skinned young lady with very dark hair & features? My aunt is. When little I saw her in stockings & she had not shaved her legs that week due to a rash. It looked like worms on her legs, lol. My aunt did not think it was funny.

We, as women, dress for ourselves & I dress modestly, but heels I have r very comfortable, being short, I feel a little taller & more lady like. Otherwise, I do not advertise for stares or whistles. I dress as if God is there all the time. I hope others do too.

Nothing feels better then being independent and sexy. Owning your space per say.

because all though we can be independent there is nothing wrong about wanting to look good ( yes even though it is for other people ). personally i wear heels because i like the way they look, however i do shave my legs because i know my hubby do not want to crawl into bed with a cactus.

Do not agree, it is to do with grooming. I do not want hairy pits or legs just cos I am not with someone. It makes me feel ugly. High heels are nice but I would not wear them all the time. They hurt your feet.

I am an independent mum of two and work in the beauty industry. Us women like to feel good for US. Not men.

Or why do men shovel themselves into skimpy knickers, or go for the six pack look? These days men hardly need have Herculean strength to nip down to the take away
